Moving Tips
Please see below for helpful moving tips. We recommend preparing for your move 1-2 Months in advance. This way you have enough time to plan, pack, and get rid of a few things. You may have a 30-day cancellation policy with your internet or utility providers.
WHEN GATHERING ESTIMATES
Get to know the movers. Make sure the moving company you are working with has a license issued by The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the U.S Department of Transportation, see their history and if there are any complaints. Second, check their history, and if they own their own trucks and trailers. Third, you need to create an inventory list of all the items you are planning to move and provide the same list to all movers or schedule a visual estimate for an accurate estimate. We highly recommend checking if a mover is an accredited business by The Better Business Bureau. Read all reviews and check the rating. We don't recommend working with new moving companies, chances are they changed their name due to issues with their previous moving company. Last, check that they are local movers and not coming from out of state.
SAY GOODBYE TO UNUSED STUFF
This is the best time to say goodbye to unused stuff. We recommend yard-sales, take pictures of the items you would like to get rid of, and upload them to a sellers app like, Let Go, OfferUp. You can also add pictures to your Facebook or other social medial profiles, search for a sellers group in your area and post your items. Let your friends and relatives know you're selling and giving away items. If you are planning on donating items, you may contact The Salvation Army, or The Goodwill for help.
GET STURDY AND THE RIGHT PACKING SUPPLIES
If you're packing your items, we recommend to save your hard-earned money on cardboard boxes. Instead, look for free moving boxes at your local U-Haul Box Exchange. Other places to find free moving boxes include Craigslist, Staples, Best Buy, book stores, liquor stores, just to name a few. You will need to purchase Boxes, Picture Boxes, TV Boxes, a few rolls of Tape, Bubble Wrap, Shrink Wrap, Wardrobe Boxes, Plastic Containers, Wrapping Paper, Markers.
PACK THE BASICS YOURSELF
Packing is the most important part of the move. Everything must be packed, or boxed. All boxes must be sealed with tape and packed to the top. Items with glass, such as glass tops, cabinets with glass doors, picture frames, and lamps etc will need cardboard, bubble wrap and tape. If you would like to take care of the packing yourself, we recommend the following: When packing your boxes, use small boxes for heavy items like books, Cups, Glassware and, other fragile small items. Use large boxes for big & lightweight items such as pillows, kids toys, winter clothing etc. For items with glass, you will need to cut a few cardboard boxes to customize the packing. Use shrink-wrap to keep your cardboard attached instead of tape to avoid peeling when its time to unpack. Please ask your representative about our full packing service and pricing for individual items.
