Moving Tips
Please see below for helpful moving tips. We recommend preparing for your move 1-2 Months in advance. This way you have enough time to plan, pack, and get rid of a few things. You may have a 30-day cancellation policy with your internet or utility providers.
WHEN GATHERING ESTIMATES
When choosing a moving company, it's essential to get to know the movers. Ensure that the company has a valid license issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Check their history for any complaints and verify whether they own their own trucks and trailers. Creating an inventory list of all the items you plan to move and providing this same list to all movers for an accurate estimate is crucial. Alternatively, scheduling a visual estimate can provide even more precision. It’s highly recommended to check if the moving company is accredited by the Better Business Bureau, read all reviews, and consider their rating. Be cautious about working with new moving companies, as they might have changed their name due to past issues. Lastly, ensure that the movers are local and not coming from out of state to avoid potential complications.
SAY GOODBYE TO UNUSED STUFF
This is the perfect opportunity to part ways with unused items. Consider hosting a yard sale, or take photos of the items you want to sell and upload them to seller apps like LetGo or OfferUp. You can also post these pictures on your Facebook Marketplace or other social media profiles, and search for local seller groups to share your items. Spread the word to friends and family about the items you’re selling or giving away. If you plan to donate, organizations like The Salvation Army or Goodwill are great options to consider.
PACKING SUPPLIES
If you're packing your items, we recommend to save your hard-earned money on cardboard boxes. Instead, look for free moving boxes at your local U-Haul Box Exchange. Other places to find free moving boxes include Craigslist, Staples, Best Buy, book stores, liquor stores, just to name a few. You will need to purchase Boxes, Picture Boxes, TV Boxes, a few rolls of Tape, Bubble Wrap, Shrink Wrap, Wardrobe Boxes, Plastic Containers, Wrapping Paper, Markers. You can also purchase packing supplies from our website
PACK THE BASICS YOURSELF
Packing is a critical part of the moving process. Ensure everything is properly packed or boxed, with all boxes sealed with tape and filled to the top. Glass items, such as glass tops, cabinets with glass doors, picture frames, and lamps, require special care with cardboard, bubble wrap, and tape. If you choose to handle packing yourself, we recommend using small boxes for heavy items like books, cups, and glassware, and large boxes for lightweight items like pillows, toys, and winter clothing. For furniture with glass, you may have to customize your packing by cutting cardboard boxes: use bubble-wrap and tape to protect delicate areas. For a hassle-free experience, ask your representative about our full packing service, and individual item pricing.
